Dr. Neelam Misra is a double board-certified physician specializing in
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Interventional Pain
Management. She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgia Tech
and earned her medical degree from St. George's University. Her
residency training was done at Long Island Jewish Hospital, followed
by a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at Roosevelt
Hospital in New York City.
In addition to her conventional training, Dr. Misra completed the
UCLA/Helms Medical Acupuncture course and became a Clinical Ayurvedic
Specialist through the California College of Ayurveda. She has also
pursued research and training in music therapy and Tibetan sound bowl
therapy for pain relief.
With over 15 years in practice, Dr. Misra has always approached pain
as a nuanced and complex experience—shaped by diet, sleep, emotional
well-being, movement, sensory input, personal history, environment,
and genetics (far from exhaustive, this list continues to grow). This
holistic appreciation of pain inspired her to expand her expertise
into Acupuncture, Ayurveda, and Functional Medicine.
Her care model integrates both Western and Holistic medicine, using
multiple lenses to assess and treat. Every treatment plan is highly
personalized, evidence-based, and designed to be both safe and
effective.
Why Holistic?
Holistic pain management addresses the whole person—not just symptoms.
It considers a broad range of factors that can influence the
experience of pain: diet, exercise, sleep, social support, life
experiences, genetics, and emotional health, among others. By
addressing root causes, healing can occur on a deeper, more
comprehensive level.
Why Slow Medicine?
While fast medicine can be life-saving and is well-suited for
emergency conditions, it often lacks the time and space to address
chronic conditions.
Slow medicine is unhurried. It prioritizes depth over volume, presence
over speed. Slow medicine is deliberate and understands that in order
to heal, one needs to be heard. It considers lifestyle changes that
take time. This is the opposite of quick fixes. It invites patients to
harness the potential their bodies have to not only heal, but to
thrive and to honor the pace at which healing unfolds. It is an
intentional, patient-centered, holistic model of care.
Our Approach
For symptom relief, methods employed include:
Acupuncture
Sound Bowl Therapy
Ayurvedic practices
Lifestyle guidance around nutrition, sleep, movement, exercise, and
stress
If needed, functional medicine labs may be helpful to assess gut
health, mitochondrial and adrenal function, stress response, and
neuroinflammation. Pharmaceutical-grade supplements and medications
may be used when appropriate.
Note: Narcotics are not prescribed nor refilled in this
practice
The focus goes beyond symptom relief to identify and address the root
cause of pain. Through a detailed evaluation of history, key events,
and symptom patterns, underlying triggers and imbalances emerge. Dr.
Misra takes a thoughtful, adaptive approach, regularly assessing
progress and adjusting treatment as needed. She fosters lasting
health, resilience, and vitality through collaboration.
